Australian drivers have embraced the SUV, and you’re likely to see them in any city or suburban street. One of the most compelling offerings is the Skoda Kodiaq, providing a wealth of features and genuine 4×4 capabilities. So, here we’ll explore this exciting model in more detail, so you can decide if the Skoda Kodiaq 2022 is the right option for you.
Under the Bonnet
Skoda’s car model Kodiaq 4×4 Sportline features a four cylinder 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine that produces 140 kW of power and 400 Nm torque paired with a Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) seven speed auto transmission. The 4×4 Sportline has a fuel consumption rate of 5.9 litres per 100 kilometres, and it is equipped with a 60 litre tank, so you won’t need to plan for frequent fuel stops on your adventures.
The Design
The Kodiaq is a nice looking vehicle with sleek, low slung aesthetics. While it is not massively different from the basic Skoda Kodiaq, there are some cool tweaks that make it more sporty. This includes sports leather steering wheel, black front grille, black edged windows, chrome exhaust pipes, sporty bumper, and Black Alcantara sport seats with silver stitching. There are also some nice Sportline accents such as the Sportline glovebox tag.
The Practicality
There are some nice touches for the Kodiaq including door edge protectors that flip out when a door is opened to protect it from carpark dings, Skoda branded umbrellas tucked away in a special compartment in the doors and third row bottle and mobile phone holders. There is also a neat cargo net that stops your items from shifting around in the boot.
In terms of space, there is 270 litres of cargo space with all the seats in place that increases to 630 litres if you fold the third row and a massive 2005 litres if the second row is also folded.
On the Road
The Sportline is a nimble, low riding SUV that is far nicer than many of the big SUVs on the market. The flatter steering wheel feels nicely weighted, and the seats feel comfortable and supportive. You can also enhance your driving experience and cabin comfort with the optional luxury pack.
When driving, you can switch to different drive modes; Comfort, Normal, Eco, Snow or Sport. There is also an Individual mode that can be adapted using the infotainment system. The drive modes adjust the steering, acceleration, braking, and other vehicle characteristics. Since the Kodiaq is so light, it gets off the mark swiftly to provide a lively drive. The four wheel drive system automatically engages if a loss of traction is detected, so you can feel confident if the driving conditions unexpectedly shift.
