Skoda First Plug in Hybrid Superb

Skoda’s First Plug-In Hybrid Superb

Czech automaker Skoda just recently released the Skoda Superb iV, the first plug-in hybrid under the century-old car brand. The Superb is doing quite well in European markets and the rest of the world. Unfortunately, Australia has yet to experience a hybrid car because of the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure.

With the expected release of the 2020 Skoda Superb Perth car owners should consider this sustainable vehicle. Hybrid cars offer the best worlds of driving fossil fuel-based and electric drivetrains.

In this post, we will look into the Skoda Superb iV and find out why this can be the family car of choice for many Australians.

Is Skoda Superb a Hybrid Car?

By all accounts, the Skoda Superb iV is a hybrid car. However, there are also full petrol variants under the same car model. Aside from a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder Turbo Petrol, it also has an electric motor which delivers a combined output of 160 kW and 400 Nm.

This compact executive car also has a front-wheel-drive layout mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Superb iV can reach a top speed of 223 kilometres per hour and has a 0-100 kph acceleration in just 7.7 seconds.

More impressively, the Superb iV can easily cover 55 kilometres when running on electricity alone. According to Skoda, the car has a fuel economy of 2.75 Liter per 100 kilometres.

Standard features of the Superb iV include DAB radio, alloy wheels and all-round parking sensors.

With the upcoming Australian release of the 2020 Skoda Superb, Perth car owners should be excited with this car that’s known for its value for money. Should it ever be released in Australia, its price is expected at an upwards of AUS$ 56,000.

The first generation of the Skoda Superb came out way back in 2001. Back then, it was built using Volkswagen’s B5 PL45+ platform. The 1st gen Skoda has many powertrains from the 112 kW 1.8-Liter turbocharged engine to the 120kW 2.6-Liter V6.

In 2008, the second generation of the Superb was introduced and had a reasonably successful run. The car was based on a new platform, had a facelift and had 12 powertrain options. Fast forward seven years, Skoda introduced the third generation of this compact executive car in 2015.

Today, Skoda has introduced the Skoda Superb iV– the electric variant of their popular sedan. It’s only the second electrified Skoda car to be released, with the other being the CitiGo-E iV which was released a week earlier than the Superb iV.

The Superb iV runs both on electricity and petrol fuel. Moreover, its charge port is also cleverly hidden in the front grille.

With the introduction of the 2020 Skoda Superb, Perth residences now have an option to get a car that offers substantial savings on hybrid car tax breaks and fuel. It’s a car worth the wait.
